Well folks it's happened, the old MFZ Archive has finally been restored. Many hours of hard work were put into this project. I honestly had no understanding of how taxing this process would be until I was way over my head in tedious icon creating. In all, it took two months to recreate the 1000+ icons in the collection, a fair amount of time for me considering I work full time and pursue other hobbies. My initial excitement motivated me in the beginning, but the small community of members who have began to use this resource has kept me pushing through the growling process. I have to admit that after awhile this became more of a chore than something I enjoyed.

Regardless, I think a lot of people will appreciate having this back. New sprite additions will help make this resource more useful, as well as give us some healthy goals to work towards. There are so many spriters who have created their own projects while the MFZ was gone. Some of these sheets have also been improved. Not to mention that Sega released Sonic Mania a couple years ago, opening the floodgates of hundreds of moders creating sprites for the game. While the old archive has been restored, this is only the beginning of more things to come.

Brand new additions can be expected in the weeks to come, as well as missing items added back courtesy of our members. If you haven't seen it already, come visit our site and join our Discord. I promise we don't bite ;)

I finally found a good enough CMS to host webcomics, the first project being the revival and archiving of Insonicnia. All in an easy to read format. Here's a direct announcement I posted on my main page:

You've probably noticed that I haven't added anything to the archive since last week. For good reason though, I have been cooking up two new pages during this time.

I am proud to introduce a complete archive of Kajin's Insonicnia! Yippee!

Along with this, a small layout upgrade has been done for Tribent's comic, as well as a patch implemented for the broken archive links, allowing for easy comic searching. I have also added a new link to the comics button, which leads you to a list of all comics currently being hosted on our site.

In no small terms was this project a doozy. I have combed the internet for weeks in search of a proper comic CMS system that would fit my needs in terms of both style and customization. The landscape of webcomics is vastly different from 15 years ago, and yet if you search the web there is almost no decent, modern CMS solution that doesn't involve hosting your comic on another site. While that's great, I feel much more comfortable having control of our content without the threat of rapid changes and shutdowns, as seen recently with Smack Jeeves.

I digress. I hope your will enjoy this small snippet of content posted. In the near future I would love to eventually have some of our own comics being posted by our members. With the new system set up, adding comics will be easy and efficient.

For those of you that sprite, I have restored 75% of the Mystical Forest Zone sprite section, with plans to add more new sprites in the weeks to come.

What started as a small personal endeavor to chisel my web dev skills has turned into a passion project to restore one of my favorite websites.

As most Sonic fans are aware, a big hole in our community was left when the Mystical Forest Zone shut down its website. One of its best features was its large collection of sprite sheets that gave comic makers and animators a resource to use for their projects. Although the basic characters can be found on the Spriter's Resource, many of the other unique gems can now only be accessed via the Wayback Machine.

With a couple months of time and effort, I have tried to create a diligent restoration of the original sprite pages. As you can already tell, the buttons look just a tad different but are still very similar to the old layout. This is in hopes that the restoration will be a familiar place for old timers to come back to. I also like the ease of customization, and hope to add substantially to this collection with new content.

I am fully aware that Kajin / Atto Sama may have plans to bring the MFZ back. Links to the old site show a blank landing page, and rumors have spread that the forest will bloom again. All of that makes me feel excited, and I hope that it will happen in the near future. While we wait for an official release of their site, the sprite page I build will act as an archive of their old website. I am in no way affiliated with the MFZ, and am fully aware that many of the sheets explicitly state that they are only to be hosted on the MFZ. I feel however, that the spirit of my decision is to open the gates back up to collaboration, and that the only way to do that is to make the older sheets available in a convenient manner to people who want to use them again.

For those who want to assist me in adding to the archives, please join the forum in the suggestions section and our Web discussion Discord to discuss potential ideas and bug fixes you may see. With time, I hope this project will usher in a new era of Sonic creators to take up the flag where our predecessors left off.

P.S. If Kaijin, Atto Sama or Dark Fox sees this, I would love to be part of helping restore the MFZ. Please contact me if you need any help with coding.

So you know that comic I said I was gonna start? Yeah, it's fricken here baby. In all its pixel GLORY!

I decided that I would make two comics for myself. One that was more aimed at comedy, and another aimed around a more serious story. I hope you will enjoy the things to come.

Also, if yall have any good resources or advice, I'd love to have them. This comic thing sucks so much time, I'd need the blessings of the comic goddess herself to get it done quicker.

One more thing: WIP - Xypter V5 by Xypter new sheet. WEEEEEEEEEEEE
